The Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to award foreign experts and scholars interested in researches related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia-Pacific region and Chinese studies to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.

As American minority students are largely underrepresented in study abroad programs, these scholarships are designed to expand study abroad opportunities for such students and foster a greater understanding about diversity in America as well as the perspectives, challenges, and opportunities of different American minorities. The Redbird Academic Scholarship is an award that ranges from $1,000 to $4,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, for new freshmen.
