The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies is an academic research institute on university level, operating on an independent budget and answering directly to the Ministry of Education. Its role is to: conduct research on Icelandic Studies and related scholarly topics, especially in the field of Icelandic language and literature; disseminate knowledge in these fields;
preserve and augment the collections within its care.
